Idaho has no state-mandated topic requirements beyond the 100-hour total.
Credit must come from an organization accredited by the ACCME, AMA, Idaho Medical Association, or AAFP. ACGME residency or fellowship time accrues toward the requirement. Teaching or presenting accredited CME can satisfy a portion of required hours.
| Credit system | Notes |
|---|---|
AAPA Category 1 PAs only | Idaho's PA CE requirement flows through NCCPA certification maintenance rather than an independent state hour count, so whatever AAPA accepts toward NCCPA credit satisfies Idaho.SourceIDAPA 24.33.02[1] |
AMA PRA Category 1 | AMA PRA Category 1 Credit from ACCME-accredited providers counts toward NCCPA certification maintenance and therefore satisfies Idaho's PA CE requirement.SourceIDAPA 24.33.02[1] |
NCCPA Category 2 credits PAs only | NCCPA accepts Category 2 credits up to its own caps. Because Idaho PA CE flows through NCCPA maintenance, whatever NCCPA accepts satisfies Idaho.SourceIDAPA 24.33.02[1] |
Idaho is transitioning to birth-date-based license expiration. After April 1, 2026, all PA licenses will be mandatory two-year licenses expiring on the licensee's birth date.[2] Even birth years expire in 2028 or 2030; odd birth years expire in 2029 or 2031. The DOPL press release confirms there are no changes to CE requirements as part of this transition.
Service members on active duty outside Idaho receive a six-month penalty-free renewal window following discharge or reassignment. During military service and for six months following discharge, the license remains in good standing without renewal.
