FAQ
Does Arkansas treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. The Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degrees are equivalent in Arkansas, and the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners licenses both under identical provisions of Arkansas Code Title 17, Chapter 82 and 17 CAR § 115. The same biennial CE cycle and the same one-hour infection-control mandate apply to every Arkansas dentist regardless of degree title.
Are ADA CERP credits accepted in Arkansas?
Arkansas does not preapprove CE courses. Article XIV accepts courses directly related to patient services or the management of the dental practice or clinic, and it accepts home-study courses when they include a post-test and certificate of completion. Dentists with edge-case CE should confirm acceptance with the board before relying on it.
Are there mandatory CE topics for dentist renewal in Arkansas?
The universal mandatory topic is one hour of infection control CE per biennium under 17 CAR § 115-1503(b)(1). Separately, staff who hold a Sedation Assistant permit must complete two hours of CE related to office emergency management or direct care of sedated patients for biennial permit renewal.
Where can I check my Arkansas dental license renewal date?
The Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners is housed at the Arkansas Department of Health. License verification and renewal information are available through the board page at healthy.arkansas.gov/boards-commissions/boards/dental-examiners-arkansas-state-board, and the full rules at codeofarrules.arkansas.gov.
