Accepted credit

Credit must come from an organization accredited by the ACCME, AMA, Connecticut Medical Association, or AAFP. ACGME residency or fellowship time accrues toward the requirement. Teaching or presenting accredited CME can satisfy a portion of required hours.

First-time renewal applicants are exempt from the APRN CE requirement.

APRNs not engaged in active practice may apply for exemption.

Medical disability or illness may qualify for waivers or time extensions.

FAQ
What is the mandatory topic breakdown for Connecticut APRN CE?
The mandatory minimums are: 5 hours pharmacotherapeutics; 1 hour AIDS/HIV; 1 hour risk management; 1 hour sexual assault; 1 hour domestic violence; 1 hour cultural competency; 1 hour substance abuse. Total mandatory: 11 hours. The remaining 39 hours are unrestricted. First-time renewers add 2 hours veterans' mental health.
Do Connecticut NPs have independent prescriptive authority?
Yes. Connecticut is a full-practice-authority state for NPs. Connecticut APRNs may practice and prescribe independently without a mandatory physician collaborative practice agreement.
Is Connecticut a Nurse Licensure Compact state?
No. Connecticut is not a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Connecticut nurses hold single-state licenses. Nurses wishing to practice in Connecticut must obtain a Connecticut RN and APRN license.
