Documentation & audit

The department may randomly audit renewal applications. PAs must retain CE records and produce them upon request.[4]

Waivers & exemptions

PAs first licensed within the current 2-year renewal period are exempt from CE requirements for that period.

PAs who served in the regular armed forces of the United States during part of the credentialing period may receive a CE waiver.

The department may grant waivers when documented circumstances beyond the credential holder's control prevented completion of CE.

FAQ
How many CE hours do Nebraska PAs need?
Nebraska physician assistants must complete 50 hours of Category 1 continuing education every two years.[2] All hours must come from ACCME, AOA, or AAPA-approved providers. CE must be earned within the 24 months immediately preceding the October 1 license expiration date. Alternatively, PAs can satisfy the requirement by maintaining current NCCPA certification. Up to 25 excess hours may be carried over to the next renewal period.
Are there mandatory CE topics for PAs in Nebraska?
Nebraska has one conditional mandatory topic. PAs who prescribe controlled substances must complete 3 hours biennially on opioid prescribing, including risks and indicators of addiction, and emergency opiate situations.[3] Of those 3 hours, 0.5 must specifically cover Nebraska's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). These opioid hours count toward the 50-hour total rather than being in addition to it. This requirement is set to expire on January 1, 2029.
Where can I check my Nebraska PA license renewal date?
Nebraska PA licenses can be managed through the online portal at nebraska.mylicense.com. All PA licenses expire on October 1 of odd-numbered years.[2] The renewal fee is $110. The department sends renewal notices, but PAs are responsible for tracking their own deadlines. Random audits may occur, and PAs must retain CE records and produce documentation upon request.[4]
