FAQ
Does Nebraska treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. The Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degrees are equivalent in Nebraska, and the Board of Dentistry applies identical CE rules to both. Every general dentist regardless of degree title must complete the same 30 biennial hours.
Are ADA CERP credits accepted in Nebraska?
The current rule does not name ADA CERP or AGD PACE by trade name. It does accept state and national meetings of local, state, or American Dental Association groups, National Dental Association meetings, recognized ADA specialty-group educational programs, district meetings and study clubs, formal dentistry courses, college or university CE, and other listed activities that meet the rule's criteria.
Are there mandatory CE topics for dentist renewal in Nebraska?
Yes. All active dentists must complete at least 2 hours of infection control CE. Dentists who prescribe controlled substances must also complete 3 hours biennially on prescribing opiates, including 0.5 hour covering the PDMP, under Neb. Rev. Stat. 38-145(6). Sedation permit holders must add 6 hours of sedation/anesthesia management CE, and moderate or general sedation permit holders must also complete 8 hours of hands-on AHA ACLS.
Where can I check my Nebraska dental license renewal date?
The Nebraska DHHS Licensure Unit maintains license verification at dhhs.ne.gov/licensure. License records show expiration date and CE compliance status. The renewal window aligns with the biennial March 1 odd-year cycle.
