Accepted credit
Credit must come from an organization accredited by the ACCME, AMA, Ohio Medical Association, or AAFP. ACGME residency or fellowship time accrues toward the requirement. Teaching or presenting accredited CME can satisfy a portion of required hours.

Hardship excuse: the State Dental Board may excuse licensed dentists, as a group or as individuals, from all or any part of the CE requirements because of an unusual circumstance, emergency, or special hardship.

Does Ohio treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. DDS and DMD are equivalent dental degrees, and the Ohio State Dental Board applies identical CE rules to both.
Are ADA CERP credits accepted in Ohio?
Yes. ADA CERP-recognized and AGD PACE-approved providers are accepted as board-approved sponsors under OAC 4715-8-02.
Are there mandatory CE topics for dentist renewal in Ohio?
No. The 30-hour total is not subject to topic-specific mandates for general dentists, and Ohio imposes no BLS certification mandate on dentists (the BLS statute, ORC 4715.251, covers dental hygienists). Self-instruction is permitted only with a graded exam (75%+ passing). Sedation permit holders must complete permit-tier-specific CE under Chapter 4715-9, with ACLS or PALS for moderate-and-above permits.
