That is a deadline on this requirement, not an additional class — and it applies even during the first-year new-graduate CE exemption below.

Approved activities (statutory enumeration)
Oklahoma has no board-pre-approval / accreditor-recognition framework in its captured primary text. Documentation & audit

Dentists are responsible for retaining CE documentation and producing it on request. Requirements include course title, dates, hours, sponsoring organization, and accrediting body.

Waivers & exemptions

Dentists engaged in full-time graduate study, internships, residencies, or a full-time CODA-accredited program are exempt from continuing education for one CE year per academic year completed.

New dental school graduates are not required to complete CE for the first year after graduation; CE obligations begin July 1 of the calendar year following graduation, prorated by year of new licensure. One requirement is carved out of this exemption: the two-hour opioid and scheduled drug prescribing class is still due within one year of obtaining licensure (59 O.S. § 328.41(C)(4)).

How many CE hours do Oklahoma dentists need?
40 hours every two years (July 1 of odd year through June 30 of next odd year). Within the 40, mandatory components are 2 hours of opioid CE, ethics CE, and live BLS/CPR with hands-on compression. Online CE is capped at 20 of 40 hours; CPR cannot be online. Hours do not roll over between cycles.
Does Oklahoma treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. DDS and DMD are equivalent dental degrees, and the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry applies identical CE rules to both.
Are ADA CERP credits accepted in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's statute does not name ADA CERP or AGD PACE.
