For Dentists, 30 hours is the total CME requirement. Utah also requires a set of one-time topics that count toward the 30-hour total.

Dentists holding a Utah Controlled Substance license
“A controlled substance prescriber shall complete at least 3.5 hours of continuing education in one or more controlled substance prescribing classes, except dentists, who shall complete at least two hours, that satisfy the requirements of Subsections”
Minimal sedation permit holders
“for a minimal sedation permit holder, at least two hours specific to the administration of enteral anesthesia-pharmacology and minimal sedation;”
Moderate sedation permit holders
“at least four didactic hours specific to moderate sedation and anesthesia; and”
Deep sedation/general anesthesia permit holders
“at least eight didactic hours specific to general anesthesia; and”
Credit must come from an organization accredited by the ACCME, AMA, Utah Medical Association, or AAFP. ACGME residency or fellowship time accrues toward the requirement. Teaching or presenting accredited CME can satisfy a portion of required hours.

Physicians are responsible for retaining CME documentation and producing it on request. Requirements include course title, dates, hours, sponsoring organization, and accrediting body.
