For CRNAs, 30 hours is the total CME requirement. Pennsylvania also requires a set of one-time topics that count toward the 30-hour total.
“At least 2 of the 30 hours shall be completed in Board-approved continuing education in child abuse recognition and reporting requirements (as specified in § 21.508(b), Pennsylvania Act 31 of 2014).”
“Effective May 1, 2026, at least 2 of the 30 hours shall address organ and tissue donation and recovery process (for nurses licensed prior to May 1, 2026).”
These rules apply only when the trigger described under each card is met (for example, holding a state-issued controlled substance registration or treating a specific patient population). Each cites the underlying statute or rule directly.
PA does NOT separately license CRNAs as APRNs. CRNAs in PA are licensed as RNs and recognized under 49 Pa. Code § 21.17 as authorized to administer anesthesia upon completion of an accredited nurse anesthesia program and CRNA certification.
“The certified nurse anesthetist is authorized to administer anesthesia in cooperation with a surgeon or dentist.”
Credit must come from an organization accredited by the ACCME, AMA, Pennsylvania Medical Association, or AAFP. ACGME residency or fellowship time accrues toward the requirement. Teaching or presenting accredited CME can satisfy a portion of required hours.
