FAQ
Does Tennessee treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. DDS and DMD are equivalent dental degrees, and the Tennessee Board of Dentistry applies identical CE rules to both.
Are ADA CERP credits accepted in Tennessee?
Yes. ADA CERP-recognized and AGD PACE-approved providers are accepted under the Board's general approved-provider framework in Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0460-01.
Are there mandatory CE topics for dentist renewal in Tennessee?
Yes — every dentist must complete a minimum of 2 hours of chemical dependency education each biennium. This mandate is universal and is not limited to DEA registrants. Sedation permit holders add 4 hours of anesthesia/sedation CE per biennium. The same course cannot be counted twice.
Where can I check my Tennessee dental license renewal date?
The Tennessee Department of Health maintains license records at apps.tn.gov/hlrs and the Board page at tn.gov/health/licensure/den.html. The biennial renewal aligns with the January-to-December odd-then-even-year cycle.
