Mandatory topics

For Dentists, 30 hours is the total CME requirement. Kentucky also requires a set of one-time topics that count toward the 30-hour total.

Cpr[1]
0 hrs
Biennial
Current CPR certification is required for renewal and is separate from the 30-hour CE total.

Biennial
Current 201 KAR 8:533 places this within the 30 hours for Kentucky licensed dentists; the Board CE page labels it under prescribing dentists, but the rule text does not limit Section 9(3)(c) to controlled-substance prescribers.

FAQ
Does Kentucky treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. Kentucky licenses general dentists with either a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a CODA-accredited dental school, and the same CE rules apply.
Are ADA CERP credits accepted in Kentucky?
The current retrieved primary text does not explicitly name ADA CERP or AGD PACE. Kentucky's rule defines acceptable CE by content categories and requires documentation from the provider or sponsoring organization.
Are there mandatory CE topics for dentist renewal in Kentucky?
Yes. Current CPR certification must be maintained separately from the 30-hour CE total. Current 201 KAR 8:533 also requires the 30 hours to include at least 3 hours in KASPER, pain management, or addiction disorders.
Do sedation permit holders need extra CE?
Yes. Moderate sedation and deep sedation/general anesthesia permit holders must complete 4 hours of clinical sedation or anesthesia CE in a classroom setting during the two-year permit term. These hours are in addition to the dentist-license CE.
Where can I check my Kentucky dental license renewal date?
Kentucky Board of Dentistry license lookup and renewal tools are available through the Board's online services at dentistry.ky.gov. Dentist licenses expire December 31 of odd-numbered years.
