FAQ
Does Michigan treat DDS and DMD differently for CE purposes?
No. Michigan licenses both DDS and DMD dentists under the same dentistry rules, and the 60-hour triennial CE requirement applies the same way.
Are ADA CERP and AGD PACE credits accepted in Michigan?
Yes. Michigan's dentistry rules adopt AGD PACE and ADA CERP standards by reference, and R 338.11704a lists ADA CERP and AGD-approved sponsors among acceptable CE pathways.
Does implicit bias count toward the 60 dental CE hours?
No. Dentists still need implicit-bias training at 1 hour for each year of the license cycle, but R 338.11701(7) says dentists may not earn dental CE credit for the implicit-bias training required by R 338.7004.
What happened to Michigan Rule 338.11123 for human trafficking?
The current official dentistry rules mark R 338.11123 as rescinded. Michigan dentists still need one-time human trafficking training, but the current standards rule is R 338.11271.
Do controlled-substance licensees need opioid training?
Yes. Dentists applying for or renewing a controlled substance license must complete opioids and controlled substances awareness training under R 338.3135. The rule does not specify a minimum number of hours.
Where can I check my Michigan dental license renewal date?
Michigan LARA maintains license verification at michigan.gov/lara/online-services/license-lookup. Dental renewal is triennial and based on the license expiration date.
