Implicit bias training is required at 1 hour for each year of the license cycle = 3 hrs for the 3-year podiatry cycle (R 338.7004(2), all article 15 renewals except part 188). Unlike the Michigan dentist rule (R 338.11701(7), no dental CE credit), R 338.8151(2) expressly permits these hours to count within the 150-hour total when earned in a board-approved R 338.8153 course.

Waivers & exemptions

The Board may waive the CE attendance requirement for license renewal upon written application if it finds the licensee's failure to attend was due to disability, military service, absence from the continental United States, or another circumstance beyond the licensee's control that the Board considers good and sufficient. The waiver request must be received by the department before the license expiration date.

How many CE hours do Michigan podiatrists need?
One hundred and fifty (150) hours per triennial renewal period — the highest podiatry CE total in the country. At least 75 of the 150 hours must come from CPME-accredited sponsors (Activity Code (a)).
Are APMA-approved credits accepted in Michigan?
Yes — CPME-accredited (APMA-affiliated) sponsors are the primary recognized provider system under Activity Code (a), with a 75-hour minimum floor per renewal period. ACCME, AMA, and AOA accredited activities are also accepted under Activity Code (c), capped at 40 hours per cycle.
Are there mandatory CE topics for DPM renewal in Michigan?
