Accepted credit

Credit must come from an organization accredited by the ACCME, AMA, New Jersey Medical Association, or AAFP. ACGME residency or fellowship time accrues toward the requirement. Teaching or presenting accredited CME can satisfy a portion of required hours.

Hardship extensions may be granted for severe illness, military service, or comparable circumstances upon written request within 60 days of renewal expiration.

How many CE hours do New Jersey podiatrists need?
100 continuing medical education credits per biennium, of which at least 40 must be Category I. The rule covers MDs, DOs, and DPMs uniformly under N.J.A.C. 13:35-6.15.
Are APMA-approved credits accepted in New Jersey?
Yes. APMA-approved CME counts as Category I credit alongside AMA and AOA Category I.
Are there mandatory CE topics for DPM renewal in New Jersey?
Yes. Every biennium: 2 Category I credits in end-of-life care, 1 Category I credit in opioid prescribing, and (beginning July 1, 2025) 2 Category I credits in sexual misconduct prevention. Podiatrists providing perinatal care must add 1 Category I credit in evidence-based bias training. DEA-registered podiatrists are also subject to the federal MATE Act.
