FAQ
Do Alabama NPs need to maintain national certification?
Yes. National APRN certification from a board-recognized certifying body is a requirement for APRN certification in Alabama. Maintenance of current national certification is typically required at each renewal period.
What is the prescriptive authority structure for Alabama NPs?
Alabama NPs exercise prescriptive authority under a collaborative or protocol-based arrangement. The specific structure — including whether it requires a collaborative practice agreement with a physician — should be confirmed against current Alabama Nurse Practice Act provisions and ABN rules.
Where can I find Alabama NP renewal information?
The Alabama Board of Nursing website at abn.alabama.gov is the authoritative source for current APRN certification renewal requirements, CE obligations, and prescriptive authority rules.
