FAQ
How many CE hours do Alabama podiatrists need?
Twelve (12) hours per year. Alabama is on an annual renewal cycle (license year ends October 1), and Rule 730-X-3-.06(2) requires "successful completion of any American Podiatric Medical Program approved course of study of not less than twelve (12) hours or not less than twelve (12) hours of study approved by the Board." Failure to provide proof by November 1 triggers a $300 penalty under § 34-24-275.
Are APMA-approved credits accepted in Alabama?
Yes — APMA / CPME approved CME is the primary accepted credit type, written into the rule as "American Podiatric Medical Program approved course of study." The Board may also approve other courses on a case-by-case basis, but AMA PRA Category 1 credit is not expressly listed in the rule and should be cleared with the Board before counting toward renewal.
Are there mandatory CE topics for DPM renewal in Alabama?
No state-board mandatory topics are codified in Rule 730-X-3-.06. There is no Alabama-specific opioid CE, no abuse-reporting course, no human-trafficking requirement for podiatrists. The federal MATE Act's one-time 8-hour SUD training applies to all DEA registrants — including Alabama podiatrists who prescribe controlled substances — but that is a federal overlay, not part of the 12-hour Alabama total.
Where can I check my Alabama podiatry license renewal date?
The Alabama State Board of Podiatry maintains a primary-source license verification search at pod-search.kalmservices.net, which displays registration status, expiration date, and any disciplinary actions. License renewal information and the renewal portal are linked from podiatryboard.alabama.gov.
