FAQ
How many CE hours do Massachusetts podiatrists need?
Fifteen (15) CME credits per year, on an annual renewal cycle. Of the 15 credits, at least 1 credit must be in pain management/opioid education training. This is the lowest annual CE total of any state with a podiatry CE requirement.
Are APMA-approved credits accepted in Massachusetts?
Yes — APMA / CPME approved CME is pre-approved under 249 CMR 3.05(1). Other CME providers may seek board approval on written request.
Are there mandatory CE topics for DPM renewal in Massachusetts?
Yes — 1 credit per year of pain management/opioid education training, including identification of high-risk patients and counseling on side effects, addictive nature, and proper storage and disposal of prescription medicines (249 CMR 3.05(2), per St. 2010, c. 283). There are no other state-imposed mandatory topics. The federal MATE Act adds a one-time 8-hour SUD training for DEA-registered podiatrists.
Where can I check my Massachusetts podiatry license renewal date?
Massachusetts operates a license verification search at elicensing21.mass.gov/CitizenAccess, which displays current status, expiration date, and any disciplinary history for every Massachusetts licensee.
