For RNs, 24 hours is the total CE requirement. No topic requirement applies to all RNs in Alabama. The conditional requirements below apply when the trigger described on each card is met.

Nurses completing their first renewal after initial Alabama licensure (by examination or endorsement)
“A licensed nurse shall, for the first license renewal, earn four contact hours of Board-provided continuing education related to statutory and administrative frameworks for nursing regulation, scope of practice, and standards of practice”
Alabama Board of Nursing accepts ANCC Contact Hour toward the CE requirement for RNs, along with other credit it approves.

RNs are responsible for retaining CE documentation and producing it on request. Requirements include course title, dates, hours, sponsoring organization, and accrediting body.
No formal waivers or exemptions are published for Alabama.
