FAQ
Are there mandatory CE topics for Nevada RN renewal?
Yes. Nevada requires two mandatory CE components for all RN, LPN, APRN, and CRNA licensees: (1) 4 hours of cultural competency and diversity, equity and inclusion per renewal cycle (updated from 2 hours effective January 1, 2024, per AB 267); and (2) a one-time lifetime 4-hour bioterrorism training. Both requirements count toward (not in addition to) the 30-hour total. RNs who provide or supervise emergency medical services also need a one-time 2-hour HIV stigma training upon beginning such services (SB 439).
Is Nevada part of the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)?
Yes. Nevada is an NLC compact member. Eligible Nevada-licensed RNs hold a multistate license allowing practice in all NLC member states without separate licenses. Nevada-resident nurses renew through the Nevada State Board of Nursing and must satisfy Nevada's CE requirements, including mandatory cultural competency and bioterrorism topics.
How long must Nevada RNs retain CE documentation?
Nevada RNs must retain CE certificates for at least 4 years for potential Board audit (NAC 632.340). Bioterrorism training certificates must be retained indefinitely. When audited, nurses must present authenticated photocopies of original certificates or computer printouts from approved providers. The Board conducts random audits after renewal.
Where can Nevada RNs renew their licenses and verify license status?
Nevada RNs renew through the Nevada Nurse Portal at https://nvbn.boardsofnursing.org/nvbn/. License status can be verified at https://nvbn.boardsofnursing.org/licenselookup. The Nevada State Board of Nursing can be reached at (888) 590-6726 or nursingboard@nsbn.state.nv.us for questions about CE requirements or renewal.
