FAQ
Does Wyoming require pharmacology CE for NPs with prescriptive authority?
Not in a broad pharmacology sense — but Wyoming does require 3 CE hours specifically related to the responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance abuse disorders for APRNs with prescriptive authority, at each biennial renewal. Per the WSBN education page, this is a targeted CE requirement focused on controlled substance safety and substance abuse, not a broader pharmacology or pharmacotherapeutics mandate. Proof of completion must be uploaded to WSBN at renewal. Wyoming APRNs have independent prescriptive authority without a physician collaborative agreement.
Is Wyoming in the APRN Compact?
No. Wyoming is a member of the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC), which governs the underlying RN license, but Wyoming is not a member of the APRN Compact as of 2026. Wyoming NPs who wish to practice as APRNs in other states must obtain individual APRN credentials in each state. The NLC membership facilitates RN license portability but does not extend to APRN practice privileges.
Does Wyoming require NPs to maintain national certification for APRN renewal?
Yes. Current national certification in role and population focus is the foundational APRN renewal requirement in Wyoming, per the WSBN renewal page. All major certifying bodies are accepted: ANCC, AANPCB, NCC, PNCB, NBCRNA, and others recognized for the APRN's specialty. A legacy pathway is available only to APRNs who have maintained continuous Wyoming licensure since January 1, 1999, and who lack national certification — those individuals may complete 60 CE hours per biennial cycle in lieu of certification.
Where can I check my Wyoming NP/APRN license renewal date?
Wyoming APRNs can access their renewal information at https://wsbn.wyo.gov/renewal. The WSBN website at https://wsbn.wyo.gov provides access to licensing, education, and practice information. Wyoming APRN credentials renew biennially during the October 1–December 31 window of even-numbered years. WSBN can be contacted at wsbn.licensing@wyo.gov or by phone at (307) 777-7601.
