Does Wyoming require CE for RN license renewal?
No. Wyoming has no mandatory continuing education requirement for RN license renewal. The WSBN renewal page explicitly states: "Wyoming does not have any mandatory continuing education (CE)." Instead, nurses must demonstrate competency through one of five options: 400+ practice hours (no CE required), passing the NCLEX, a Board-accepted refresher course, a nursing degree beyond the basic nursing education, or 40 hours of continuing education. CE is an optional competency pathway, not a universal mandate. Renewal is biennial (October 1–December 31 of even years).
What are the competency demonstration options for Wyoming RN renewal?
Wyoming RNs may choose one of five competency demonstration methods under the Board's current Chapter 2: (1) 400 or more hours of active nursing practice in the preceding two years; (2) successful NCLEX passage; (3) completion of a refresher course or equivalent accepted by the Board; (4) completion of a nursing education program conferring a degree beyond the nurse's basic nursing education; or (5) 40 hours of continuing education. All five options are equally accepted. Nurses document their chosen pathway on the renewal application.
Is Wyoming in the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)?
Yes. Wyoming is an NLC compact member, and eligible Wyoming RNs hold a multistate license authorizing nursing practice in all NLC member states. CE and renewal obligations are governed by the nurse's home state. Wyoming nurses residing in Wyoming renew with WSBN under Wyoming's biennial five-option competency framework, with renewal occurring October 1–December 31 of even years. What CE providers does Wyoming accept?
