FAQ
What are the competency demonstration options for Wyoming RN renewal?
Wyoming RNs may choose one of four competency demonstration methods per the WSBN renewal page: (1) 400 or more hours of active nursing practice in the preceding two years; (2) 200 or more hours of practice plus 15 CE hours; (3) 40 CE hours if fewer than 200 practice hours are documented (per WSBN renewal page primary source); or (4) successful NCLEX passage or completion of an approved refresher course or advanced nursing education program. All four options are equally accepted. Nurses document their chosen pathway on the renewal application.
Is Wyoming in the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)?
Yes. Wyoming is an NLC compact member, and eligible Wyoming RNs hold a multistate license authorizing nursing practice in all NLC member states. CE and renewal obligations are governed by the nurse's home state. Wyoming nurses residing in Wyoming renew with WSBN under Wyoming's biennial four-option competency framework, with renewal occurring October 1–December 31 of even years. WSBN can be contacted at wsbn.licensing@wyo.gov or (307) 777-7601.
What CE providers does Wyoming accept?
When Wyoming nurses complete CE as part of their competency demonstration, the WSBN accepts CE from ACCME, ACPE, AAFP, AANP, AANA, ACNM, ANA, and ANCC-accredited organizations, as well as University of Wyoming courses and Wyoming Nurses Association activities. Proof of completion must include the applicant's name, course name, organization name, completion date, and credit hours. Wyoming does not publish a closed approved-provider list — it accepts CE from these established accreditation organizations broadly.
Where can I check my Wyoming RN license renewal date?
Wyoming RNs can verify their license status and renewal information through the WSBN website at https://wsbn.wyo.gov. The renewal page at https://wsbn.wyo.gov/renewal provides renewal requirements, fees, and competency options. Wyoming RN licenses renew biennially during the October 1–December 31 window of even-numbered years. For specific license verification, nurses may contact WSBN at wsbn.licensing@wyo.gov or by phone.
