Does Idaho still have CE requirements? I have seen references to 15 contact hours online.?
No. The 15-contact-hour requirement (and the broader menu of qualifying activities it was part of) was eliminated during Idaho's zero-based regulatory review in 2022 and 2023. The current IDAPA 24.34.01, effective March 28, 2023, contains no continuing education mandate of any kind. Online sources that describe CE requirements for Idaho RN renewal — including NursingCE.com and WildIrisMedical — are describing rules that were repealed. Only the current text of IDAPA 24.34.01, available from the Idaho Administrative Rules repository, should be relied upon as authoritative.
Is Idaho part of the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)?
Yes. Idaho is a member of the NLC, which allows nurses with an Idaho primary state of residence to hold a single multistate license authorizing practice in all compact member states. Because Idaho has no CE requirement for RN renewal, nurses whose home state is Idaho have no state-mandated CE obligation tied to their multistate license. Nurses who live in another compact state but practice in Idaho are subject to their own home state's rules, not Idaho's.
How do I renew my Idaho RN license?
Idaho RN licenses renew biennially through DOPL's online services portal at edopl.idaho.gov/OnlineServices/. Beginning April 1, 2026, licenses renew on the licensee's individual birthday rather than the previous fixed August 31 odd-year expiration date. Renewal requires a completed application and payment of the renewal fee (not to exceed $90). There are no CE certificates or competency documentation required. Nurses may renew up to 60 days before their license expiration date.
