Waivers & exemptions

No CE is required at first renewal if the licensee was initially licensed in the 12-month period before the January 31 renewal date.

The Board may grant waiver or modification for isolated geography, incapacity, undue hardship, or other extenuating circumstances.

FAQ
How many CE hours do Hawaii podiatrists need?
Forty (40) hours per biennial renewal cycle, on a fixed biennial cycle that ends January 31 of even-numbered years. Per HAR 16-85 Subchapter 8, hours must be CPME-accredited postgraduate work or CPME-approved CE programming completed during the preceding biennium.
Are APMA-approved credits accepted in Hawaii?
Yes — APMA / CPME approved CME is the primary accepted credit type. The Hawaii Medical Board's published CE summary specifically recognizes "the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME)" approved or accredited postgraduate work and CE programs.
Are there mandatory CE topics for DPM renewal in Hawaii?
No state-imposed mandatory topics. There is no Hawaii opioid CE for podiatrists, no abuse reporting CE, no human trafficking course, and no jurisprudence requirement. The federal MATE Act adds a one-time 8-hour SUD training for DEA registrants.
Where can I check my Hawaii podiatry license renewal date?
The Hawaii Professional & Vocational Licensing Division operates a license search at pvl.ehawaii.gov/pvlsearch, which displays current status, expiration date, and disciplinary history for every Hawaii licensee. The Hawaii Medical Board's main page at cca.hawaii.gov/pvl/boards/medical also links to renewal information.
