FAQ
How many CE hours do Maine podiatrists need?
Twenty-five (25) hours per biennium, on a fixed biennial cycle ending on odd-numbered years. Of the 25 hours, at least 15 must be Category 1 (CPME-approved) and no more than 10 may be Category 2 (home study, journals, hospital staff meetings). New licensees who join after June 30 of an even-numbered year owe a pro-rated 12.5 hours (with ≥7.5 Category 1) at first renewal.
Are APMA-approved credits accepted in Maine?
Yes — CPME-approved (APMA-affiliated) CME is the primary Category 1 credit type. AMA Category 1 and AOA Category 1A hours related to podiatric medicine are also accepted as Category 1.
Are there mandatory CE topics for DPM renewal in Maine?
Yes — 32 MRS § 3657(4) requires every Maine-licensed podiatrist whose scope of practice includes prescribing opioid medication to complete 3 hours of CE every 2 years on the prescription of opioid medication, as a condition of prescribing opioid medication. The 3 hours count within the 25-hour biennial total. There is no separate state-imposed abuse reporting, human trafficking, or jurisprudence CE. The federal MATE Act adds a separate one-time 8-hour SUD training for DEA-registered podiatrists, in addition to the 3-hour biennial state requirement.
Where can I check my Maine podiatry license renewal date?
Maine's PFR online licensing portal at maine.gov/online/aps/pfr_licensing displays current status, expiration date, and disciplinary history for every Maine licensee. The board's information page also provides licensing form links and contact information.
