FAQ
Does Kansas require pharmacology CE for NPs with prescriptive authority?
No mandatory pharmacology CE requirement for Kansas APRNs was identified in the available KSBN rules (K.A.R. 60-9-106, KSBN CNE page). Kansas does not impose a specific pharmacology CE mandate as part of APRN renewal. The CE must be role-specific (APRN-level content), and pharmacology is a natural fit for NPs, but it is not mandated by rule. Nurses should consult the KSBN APRN Guidelines document for any updates.
Is Kansas in the APRN Compact?
No. Kansas is a member of the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) — which governs the underlying RN license — but is not a member of the APRN Compact. Kansas NPs who wish to practice as APRNs in other states must obtain APRN licensure in those states individually. NLC multistate licensure applies only to the RN credential, not APRN authority.
Does Kansas require national certification for APRN renewal?
Yes. National certification is a condition of APRN licensure in Kansas under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 65-1130. APRNs must hold certification from a recognized national certifying body in their applicable specialty. Consult KSBN directly or the APRN Guidelines document to confirm which certifying organizations are currently recognized.
Where can I check my Kansas APRN license renewal date?
Kansas APRN and RN license information is available through the Kansas State Board of Nursing at https://ksbn.kansas.gov. The CNE requirements page at https://ksbn.kansas.gov/cnes/ includes provider approval resources, IOA request forms, and audit documentation guidance. For APRN-specific guidance, KSBN provides a separate APRN Guidelines document linked from the continuing nursing education section.
