How many state-level CE hours do Alaska CRNAs need?
Alaska uses a two-of-three continuing competency framework. If a CRNA uses the CE pathway, the CE method requires 30 contact hours in the two years before the licensing period for which renewal is sought. The other state competency methods are 30 hours of uncompensated professional activities and 320 hours of RN/LPN employment.
Does Alaska have an opioid CE requirement for CRNAs?
Yes, conditionally. A CRNA/APRN who renews controlled-substance prescriptive authority and holds a valid DEA registration must attest to completing at least two hours of continuing education in pain management and opioid use and addiction during the licensing cycle. CRNAs without that DEA/controlled-substance prescriptive-authority combination are not subject to that conditional renewal attestation.
Does Alaska require NBCRNA certification for CRNA licensure?
Yes. Alaska's APRN renewal rule requires national certification for each role and population focus area being renewed, and the Alaska APRN application packet lists NBCRNA initial and renewal certifications for nurse anesthetists. NBCRNA certification is separate from, but intertwined with, state APRN authorization.
Is Alaska part of the APRN Compact or Nurse Licensure Compact?
No. The current Alaska Board of Nursing NLC page says Alaska has not yet joined the Nurse Licensure Compact, and Alaska has not enacted the APRN Compact. CRNA practice authority is still Alaska-specific.
Where can I check my Alaska CRNA license renewal date?
Use Alaska's MY LICENSE self-service portal at professionallicense.alaska.gov/mylicense or the CBPL professional license search. APRN renewal coincides with RN renewal, and Alaska RN/APRN licenses renew November 30 of even-numbered years.
